Kathryn: An Introduction

by | January 12, 2014

My name is Kathryn.  I’m a single woman living and working in the world, and I’m participating in this blog because I hope what we write here will help others to experience ever deepening levels of Christ’s love and mercy.  I hope to grow in His love and mercy too, through the process of writing and sharing.

What shall I tell you about myself?  Let’s see…

I love music, all kinds of music – I can play a few chords on the guitar, and I’m currently taking piano lessons. I enjoy autumn – it’s my favourite season. This past autumn was particularly beautiful and I went a bit photo-happy with my smart phone. (That’s one I took, just to the right). I used to love drawing and painting as a child and teenager, and I’m hoping to take those up again.I also love to read: works of fiction ranging from classics to contemporary, theological/spiritual/mystical writings, autobiographical and biographical stuff, etc.

I have an undergraduate degree in English and a graduate degree in Theology.  I like to think those are degrees that are useful no matter what kind of work you actually end up doing.

What else?

I love the Catholic Church.  Sometimes I’m easily irritated by a bad homily or lousy music or mediocre art in the context of Mass and I have to pray for patience, peace, and a less critical spirit.  But one thing is certain – I have no desire to leave the Church that offers me the body, blood, soul and divinity of my Lord in Holy Communion.  I will never leave the Church that offers me absolution for my sins through sacramental confession.  I’m sure I’ll have much more to say about this in future posts.

 Anything else?

Sometimes, when I’m wading in warm Gulf waters, I imagine that the water all around me is God’s love and mercy and I’m just floating there, immersing myself in His compassion and forgiveness.  I stay there as long as I need to, meditating on this Truth: In Christ, there is Mercy.

Also, for anyone who cares to know, I sometimes experience same-sex attractions.   So there’s that…  It’s taken me a while to come to a place in my heart where I’m more sincerely resolved to grow in interior chastity.  I believe I’m at that place of resolution now and I’m praying for the grace to stay the course.  I would very much appreciate your constant prayers for me in this as I also know I’m a very weak and vulnerable human being.

I want to spend eternity with Christ.  I want to experience the joys of heaven.  I am a work in progress and imagine I will be for all eternity.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  My hope is that writers and readers of this blog will help each other move forward in faith, while becoming true companions on our spiritual journey!  May God bless you and bring you much peace.
